No shoes but…
Same old trouble, can’t find the right size, shame as Reeboks were doing buy one get one free!
Up to 5k now. Reached that milestone in 37mins, in the gym and felt pretty good. Need to transfer that distance to the road now…
From my corner I titter, from my spot I blog, from here you hear me blirt and bleat my blogging smog.

Managed 4.8k (2.9m) on the road today, in approx 35 min’s. My back started to ache, first time that has happened, I think maybe I need a decent pair of trainers, my wellie’s are lacking that ‘bounce’.
I am actually starting to enjoy it, not yet! Just almost, still rather walk or cycle, but don’t think Bobby will be pleased if I turned up on a mountain bike… Hmm could always buy some trainers with those hidden wheels……
Ruddy road running is soooo boring, plus, felt like I’d run at least 2K and turned out to be just 1.3, rubbish. Its all the hills round here! Tis better listening to music, don’t hear the ache and pain of my heavy breathing….
Another gym session tomorrow, aiming to increase time/distance further.
*Revision to the above, my pedometer is faulty or it doesn’t like running as I had actually run 2.2k
By the time of the 5k run I want to be able to do 6k in the gym.

and my brother!

My first run was with my 15 year old son, who showed me up completely. I ran non stop for 1 mile and was completely exhausted, then proceeded to run-stop-walk-run-stop-walk the mile back home. My legs the next day had decided to divorce the rest of my body.
The 2nd run was in the gym, 2.6k in 20 min’s, non stop, running at a steady 8k per hour. That was much easier.
3rd run, last night, was against the elements and the terrain as well as the remnants of flu. 1k solid then run-walk 1k.
Dyer some would say, but its early days and I am convinced I am able to do this.
I have been out 3 times since deciding to start training, it would of been more but have just got over a bout of mild (mild not man, or even swine) flu which has hindered my routine. Anyway, these are my findings:
1. Jogging on a treadmill is infinitely easier than road running. The wind forcing you back, the sun on your face, the gradients, traffic and people, all conspire to drag that energy out of my apple shaped body three times as fast as preferred.
2. I’m running right, but I can’t stop thinking, why am I running when I could just walk?
3. I still hate running
Things have taken off since deciding on this Marathon journey. I have found out that my brother has also signed himself up to the LM and as a warm up(!) is going to do a 5k in July. Great opportunity I thought, so am doing the same.
This then puts a more urgent complexion on things. I gotta start training/dieting NOW!
I hate running, always have. I remember looking forward to cross country runs at school as much as my classmate ‘Asthmatic Dave’.
Despite this, I have rather foolishly entered myself into the pot for the 2010 London Marathon. Now, I know that the chances of being selected are slim as it’s my first entry, however, I am faced with the fact that in a little under 12 months time I could be standing at the start of a 26 mile course when the last time I ran, non-stop, any sort of distance was over 30 years ago. And that was just for 2 miles.
This coupled with the fact that I stood myself on our scales (which by the way I am convinced have a life of there own) and they told me unless I did something about it, I would be trying to haul 17 stone across the finish line.
All sounds bleak? Pretty much, but there’s something inspiring about facing any sort of adversity and conquering it. Spiritually that’s why I’m doing this.
